Broadcast Baits for Fire Ant Control
...a Multi-State Publication Through the Southern Region Integrated Pest Management Center and Texas Cooperative Extension
Introduction
In most situations, broadcast baits are the easiest, fastest, least expensive and most effective way to control fire ants. "Broadcasting" a bait means to scatter it lightly across an area, eliminating the need to find and treat individual mounds.
This section of the Fire Ant website explains how to properly treat with broadcast baits and the many advantages over other methods of fire ant control. It is intended as a companion to the publication Broadcast Baits for Fire Ant Control.
It is difficult to keep up with the constantly changing list of products, their availability and prices. Many people want all the details on these products while others just want a quick, effective answer. Hopefully, we can satisfy both and everyone in between.
We have a couple of ways to help you find the best product for your needs:
- Go to the Product Page if you already know what product(s) you are interested in and want detailed information on cost, availability, toxicity and scientific field test data.
- See our Latest Broadcast list if you want a one page, concise, no-nonsense summary of many current
products:

DISCLAIMER
This site is intended to cover only broadcast-applied fire ant control
products. Literally dozens of products are available as individual mound
treatments. Contact your local Extension Agent or return to http://fireant.tamu.edu for
more information on individual mound treatments.
Because of the constantly changing availability of fire ant insecticides,
it is virtually impossible to include every product on the market. Mention
of a product on this site does not imply an endorsement by Texas Cooperative
Extension, the Southern Region IPM Center or any cooperating state. Lack
of mention does not imply that the product is not an effective fire ant
control product.
